In celebration of Youth Month, African music streaming platform Mdundo has announced a compelling new initiative aimed at highlighting and empowering the next generation of music talent on the continent. Titled “Mdundo Conversations – Youth Month Edition,” the campaign is a month-long series of live online discussions with some of the industry’s most influential young voices and creative leaders.
Throughout June, Mdundo will host Instagram Live sessions featuring a dynamic lineup of speakers from across the African music ecosystem — from label executives to content creators — all of whom are actively shaping the future of music on the continent.
An Unfiltered Look at the Industry
These conversations are about more than music. They’re about youth empowerment, storytelling, creativity, and what it really takes to build a sustainable career in today’s music landscape.
The campaign kicked off on 6 June with Kamogelo Kgope, Artist & Label Operations Manager at Rapture Music Group, who offered insights into artist development and the challenges facing young creatives in a fast-evolving industry.
On 13 June, the focus shifts to Mculo Content, with Director ButholamaButho leading a discussion on youth-driven storytelling and the intersection of music and media culture.
The highlight of the month will take place on 16 June, Youth Day in South Africa, when Mdundo hosts a special session with Trioblaze, a forward-thinking label known for pushing the boundaries with young voices. Featuring Arzia Moahloli and Pearl Sithole, the conversation promises to be an inspiring look into how youth are reimagining African sound.
Mdundo will also publish a dedicated Youth Day message, honoring the passion and resilience of Africa’s youth and reaffirming its commitment to supporting young creatives.
Later in the month, on 20 June, the spotlight turns to DreamBox Studios, a growing incubator for emerging artists, followed by a grand finale on 27 June featuring Africori — one of Africa’s leading music distribution platforms. The final session will explore youth empowerment in digital music, the future of streaming, and how artists can build global careers from African soil.
All sessions will be streamed live at 8PM SAST on @MdundoMusicZA on Instagram.
Empowering the Future of Music
Youth Month is an important moment in South Africa’s calendar, commemorating the courage of young people in the country’s history. For Mdundo, this campaign is part of a broader commitment to building platforms for emerging talent and creating opportunities through technology and collaboration.
