Tekno Makes a Comeback with "Where Did Love Go?"

Superstar Alhaji Tekno returns with a question wrapped in melody, and an intimacy only he could pull off.

Augustine Miles Kelechi, Tekno gave Nigerian pop one of its most defining moments with Pana in 2016. Elton John played it on his Apple Music radio show. Drake posted photos with him. Beyoncé featured him on The Lion King: The Gift album. The crown was within reach. Then the worst happened. Acid reflux damaged his vocal cords so severely that he could not speak for over six months.

He went broke and had to rebuild everything, slowly and deliberately. He released songs like Agege, Buga with Kizz Daniel, and the album The More The Better, before signing to Mr Eazi's emPawa Africa as both artist and investor. He wasn't just finding a label. He was building a foundation for what came next.

Where Did Love Go? "Where Did Love Go?" released in June 2026, is eight tracks of Tekno being romantic, melodic, and completely himself. He produced half the album himself, and it shows in how in-tune it sounds.

Bamboo opens with warmth, easing you into the album's world without rushing. Press Button shifts immediately, dancehall-inflected and built for movement. Matter turns loyalty into a sing-along, built around the simple truth that a loved one's problems become your own. Port Au Prince pushes devotion even further, crossing borders for the woman who occupies his thoughts. Wedding Day moves into celebration, with melodies that feel intimate and quietly uplifting. Adaeze finds him plotting a staycation to apologise for his flaws. Avelay brings a dose of humour, "What apology cannot do, money can do." And Gently closes it all out with his vocals front and centre, stripped back, asking simply: "Baby make I talk true?"

The album explores romance from every angle, desire, uncertainty, devotion, commitment, and responsibility, and it never once tries too hard. His melodies breathe. His grooves have space. In a music industry obsessed with noise, Where Did Love Go? is a reminder that sometimes the simplest approach is still the most powerful.

Pre-release singles Bamboo, Press Button, and Matter had already crossed 3.1 million streams before the album dropped. The fans who never stopped believing showed up immediately.
