Inside Asum Garvey's EP Dawn - Disk 1

Malcolm Garvey Mutiso known by his stage name Asum Garvey has released a new EP dubbed The Dawn. The Mixtape consists of two sides separated as Disk 1 and Disk 2. With Disk 1 already out , The Dawn symbolizes the dark and the light side.  The first project is from an introspective point of view as Garvey would describe it as ‘showing his soul.’

The title ‘Dawn' is inspired by the process of making the project. Dawn got its name from Garvey curating this project at both godly and ungodly hours of the morning. In his own words ‘Everyone around me had been telling me how I should be making beats…….and I decided to produce for Asum what I feel could trigger him to go the hardest and most authentic.’ Malli who is still Mr Garvey is the name that the rapper uses for his production saying ‘ Malli is the alter ego that feeds the Asum Garvey part.’

Dawn - Disk 1 consists of 4 tracks : Dawn , Creaper , Good Bap and If I Can. The total EP for Disk 1 runs for 10 minutes 15 seconds. The first track Dawn is the shortest track which runs for 1 minute and 53 seconds. The line “I know those wishing ill wako thrilled,’ Asum  throws jabs at the critics laughing at them saying his content. He doesn't shy from spitting bars and lyricism with the line ‘Asalaam alaikum, at Dawn I am early.’

Good Bap is the longest track in the EP running for 3 minutes 9 seconds. Asum affirms himself in track soaring high and believing in himself. He goes ahead and says ‘Nani mwingine atamake it Kaa si mimi.' Good Bap is a slow jam reaching to the soul that takes one to finding themselves.

Creaper is an upbeat track where it starts slow but transitions into bars. He starts mentioning that he's got bright ideas and he does not contend with pace nor believe in race in regard to his music. Asum mentions Malli , his production craft in this song.

Lastly , Asum Garvey is big on himself with the last track, If I can. He echoes not to focus on them referring to people . Asum solely wants to do his stuff and focus on family. The release of Dawn - Disk 1 coincides with Asum Garvey's birthday on November 28.
